Wow !! Wow !! Wow !! It is impossible to describe just how much I enjoyed this holiday, but I will give it a go.
This is the first time I've been back to Fishguard Bay for a holiday since my children were little and it is quite different from the field on a hill it was then. It has pitching areas now dispersed between static pitches giving the site a bit more shelter which is a consideration on such an exposed site.
The thing is when we arrived we found the hardstanding pitch we'd booked was occupied by someone who'd pitched on the wrong number and had gone out for the day. We were offered a grass pitch down the bottom of the site which offered the best views on the whole site so we happily moved. It was a glorious day ..not a breath of wind ..so we set up, then opened a bottle of wine and sat back to enjoy the views.
Fishguard is a great place to explore Pembroke and just a 5 min drive, we would have walked but Bonnie was still too young for long walks, is Pwllgwaelod Beach and The Old Sailors Inn. What a treat this place is...a beautiful setting for a fantastic meal. We had a glorious lunch of crab sandwiches and a pint of prawns.
Another great place for a day out is Porthgain. There used to be just the one eatery The Ship Inn but now some of the old industrial buildings have been transformed into a Bistro where we enjoyed a mackerel salad and good old fish and chips. There is so much history to this place with the old brick works buildings still dominating the port. I don't know why it is but even though there are a lot of old industrial buildings there it is still a very pretty little harbour.
Back at the campsite we just relaxed and enjoyed al fresco cooking and eating and spent hours Dolphin watching.
One of the best views from the campsite is of the Ferry and the amazing sunsets.
WE WILL BE BACK!!!
