Dan yr Ogof 22 -25th June (3 nights)

This was a weekend which revolved around dodging Midges ..Following a heatwave the rain came and provided an ideal environment for the pesky creatures and we were swamped with them, It didn't help that we chose a new pitch near the river. Thank goodness I always keep Avon skin so soft in the caravan so a few sprays and they left is alone .. well most of the time. Steve had the worst end but then he didn't use the shower cream I put in the shower so serves him right lol. Anyway we managed to get the awning up with the help of a few sprays of tropical midge spray and then bolted inside where I lit a citronella candle to keep them out of the awning. Unfortunately the fly screens aren't fine enough to stop them coming in so we spent the weekend with the windows closed!

But despite the midges and the frequent showers we still managed a few walks and got to spend some down time with each other and the dogs .. and enjoy the solitude of the latest pitch for us to try out ....

The back of the pitch...

The side of the pitch ..lovely view sat in the awning

You can just make out the corner of our awning in the middle of the picture.

This was only Bonnie's second trip but she is a seasoned caravanner already ..

We're really looking forward to our next trip ...we've booked 6 nights at Fishguard Bay Resort, a stunning site in the middle of Pembrokeshire national park. Really hope the weather is kind as it's quite exposed ..will let you know.

Hurley Riverside Park 26th May - 3rd June ( 8 nights).

Before I write about our holiday I have to spill the beans about the new addition to our family ... we have a new Mini Schnauzer puppy called Bonnie ..

It was rather daunting going away with a 10 week old pup but she was as good as gold ..We had a puppy carrier for her to sleep in and a puppy playpen to keep her safe.

This site has to be added to my favourites list ..a beautiful site with large pitches right next to the River Thames.

We left home in hot sunshine with the promise of good weather for the week ..Well the weather forecast wasn't wrong ..34 degrees!!! putting up the awning was a bit too hot for us to be honest. We were lucky to have a bit of shade to the back of the caravan for Bella and Bonnie, we put them both in the playpen so we were able to keep them in the shade. Wish we'd left the awning till later though ..my daughter arrived by 6pm and their pitch was under the shade of the trees by then so nice and cool to set up.
The site is made up of small areas ..we were in Maple ..a large grass area with 10 fully serviced hardstandings. The only little annoyance we had was from the nature trail which runs along the back of the whole site. We had an entrance to it between our pitches so kids on bikes tended to race out without warning ..we had a couple of near misses.

It was a lovely relaxing holiday, we caught up with family living in the area on a couple of days and spent a day in Henley on Thames cruising the river on a hired motor boat. The Village of Hurley has a fab pub called 'The Rising Sun' ..highly recommended ..we had Sunday lunch there and a weekday meal, both were outstanding.
